Train Directly With the Master Level Teaching Team

Master Level Training ( MLT )

Rarely in the United States has the title of Master been given within Traditional Moo Doe. A handful of times each year, the Master Level Teaching Team visits the Kirkland School. No matter your age, condition, or rank, every student has the opportunity to train under this team, from your local instructor all the way to the Master, Chung Sa Bu Jerry.

WHAT IS MLT

Master Level Training

MLT stands for the Master Level Teaching Team, made up of Head National Instructors together with Chung Sa Bu Jerry. Chung Sa Bu is the title held by a Master within Traditional Moo Doe. Most Instructors on the team has spent more than forty years developing the skill to observe and correct movement at the highest level of the art.

This team travels to Oom Yung Doe schools across the country, and instructors within the lineage travel internationally as well, carrying this same standard of teaching beyond the United States.

During a visit, the team teaches seminars and gives instruction on Foundation Movements, Championship Courses, and Dan Hyung techniques, often through several distinct sessions rather than a single lesson. Movement is taught at the Chung Hyung, or "Key Foundation," level, where each technique is adapted to fit your own body rather than repeated as a fixed sequence.

Offered This Round

MLT Round Three

This round of Master Level Training offers three Chung Dan Hyungs. Speak with your instructor if you are unsure which one fits your current level.

  • Yung Chun Doe is a Chinese broad sword (Kom) that has nine steel rings attached to it. It is marginally heavier than a typical Kom requiring the practitioner to use their entire body - an ability that transfers to other forms and self-defense. Once an individual absorbs the proper technique, it is common for the practitioner to be directed to slowly increase the weight of the weapon, further developing strength, skill, and body control. The practice of Yun Chun
Doe has been known to quickly develop tremendous internal and external strength which can give immediate benefits in daily life.

  • Oom Yung Doe Tai Chi Chung movement is deliberate, both quick and slow, and without force. It combines offensive and defensive applications and is sometimes described as moving meditation. The speed of the breathing matches the speed of the movement. Tai Chi Chung develops inner strength, mental calmness, physical well-being, and overall health. Some of the immediate benefits students notice are mental calmness, an increase in energy, better circulation, and chi flow.

  • Tang Nang Choyo movement comes from the motion of the deep ocean surf: sharp and strong. Offensive and defensive movement is executed as one. The entire body develops great strength. This form develops both mental and physical strength. Tang Nang Choyo is similar to Tang Nang,

  • This free lesson is open to all current adult students from both the Kirkland and Northgate schools.

Students will have the rare opportunity to train with Head National Instructor Bob, who has been teaching for over 40 years. These national lessons focus on practical self-defense applications, helping you sharpen your skills, build confidence, and strengthen your ability to protect yourself.

The National Lesson this round will incorporate special movements around the Gong Chung bags. This special equipment lesson is only available through National Level instruction and s free to all current students this

  • Current adult students students have the opportunity to further develop Pal Bek Gae, a Chung Dan Hyung taught by Chung Sa Bu Jerry at no additional cost.

Pal Bek Gae, the eight military disciplines, builds a strong self-defense foundation through footwork, stances, body control, and striking with hands, elbows, and feet.

Opportunities to receive Chung Dan Hyung level instruction directly from the Master Level Teaching Team come only a handful of times each year. Whether you are returning to refine what you have already trained or receiving this form for the first time, this is not a lesson to pass on.

Students who have not yet learned the sequence can get started with ARHI Michelle on Thursday August 27th at 7:00pm in the Kirkland School. The group lesson during the MLT will focus on helping students further develop their understanding. This does not replace existing MLT guidelines for black belt progression. Qualifying junior and child students who have attended Chung Hyung Level Training may also be invited

Extra Training

Extra Master Level Training Opportunities

IMG_2258 (Comp).jpg
  • Certified Training becomes available once an Instructor or student reaches 2nd degree black belt or above, taught directly by Chung Sa Bu Jerry alongside a small number of Head International and Head National Instructors. These lessons cover deep foundation training built to strengthen specific areas of the body, along with internal martial arts such as Qi Gong and Nae Gong, advanced weapons work, and progression through the Chung Dan Hyung, Jhoon Hyung, and at times Chang Hyung stages. Certified Training can also include specialization work, built around whatever a given instructor has spent years refining within their own practice.

  • Chung Dan Hyungs are specialized forms taught directly by the Master, each one developing the body and mind in a different way. They carry more Key Foundation movements than regular curriculum forms, the movements known to change the body the fastest, which is part of why they can only be learned through Master Level Training, week-long trainings, or weekend seminars. No local instructor can teach them.

Each Chung Dan Hyung is developed across three stages. A student first learns the Dan Hyung, then works toward the Jhoon Hyung, an extended and upgraded version of it, and finally the Chang Hyung, a further extension and upgrade of the Jhoon Hyung. Across these three stages, a student moves from learning the form to mastering it, until it becomes entirely their own.

Each round typically offers three Chung Dan Hyungs to choose from. If enough students request a different one and gather together to ask for it, there is a good chance it can be added to what is offered.

  • Iron Hand strengthens the muscles, bones, and joints of the hand and wrist through traditional striking practice and Qi Gong breathing, improving circulation and flexibility alongside striking power. Correct training builds hands that remain soft and capable in daily life, yet carry real power when called upon, without the stiffness that comes from training incorrectly. Iron Hand is taught only under Master Level supervision.

  • Baga is an internal martial art built on coiling movement and circular footwork, developing explosive speed, precision, and reflexes that serve both offense and defense. Correct practice sharpens mental focus and improves the flow of chi, harmonizing mind and body as it deepens over time. Advanced practitioners develop Nae Gong, an internal strength refined so completely that a practiced walk across sand leaves barely any trace behind. Bagua is taught only under Master Level supervision.

  • Championship Courses are follow-up lessons to a student's Chung Dan Hyungs, taught directly by Chung Sa Bu Jerry. Based on how the student has actually practiced, these sessions add further detail and correction, adapting the Hyung to fit that student's own body. Once a student has fully absorbed the movement, the course sometimes extends into showing its application for self-defense.

  • Traditional Moo Doe Body Conditioning addresses the imbalances that may be limiting your health, mobility, or daily life. The program is available as a full-body track, or, when specific areas need extra attention, as a partial-body track focused on those areas directly. Following an individual assessment, the Master Level Teaching Team designs a twelve-month program that develops the upper, middle, and lower body through guided correction. Many students notice a meaningful easing of longstanding discomfort, mobility they had not felt in decades, and a marked improvement in how their body holds itself.

  • For students who already hold a Dan Hyung and are clear on their form sequence, this program works directly with Chung Sa Bu Jerry to refine personal strengths and develop overall movement, coordination, and power. Training is adjusted to each student's own body type, and prior coaching or championship-lesson experience is recommended before joining.

  • Offered each round by a National Instructor with decades of experience in both arts, this program refines self-defense skill through precise, efficient technique. It is built for students looking to deepen their understanding of balance, timing, and controlled movement in realistic situations. Students are encouraged to sign up with a training partner of similar skill and rank.

  • Most rounds also include a National Lesson, open to every current adult student rather than one specific program group. Taught by a Head National Instructor, it focuses on practical self-defense application and sharpening skills already learned. A shorter session is often included alongside it for newer, lower-belt students to train and meet the visiting instructor.

Why Learn From the Master Level Team

Instructors Who Have Dedicated Their Lives to This Skill

Every technique, correction, and standard held by an instructor at Oom Yung Doe traces back to this level. A Master teaches the instructors, who then carry that knowledge into every lesson they give, one of the ways this practice has been passed down for centuries. That same line of correction carried by the Master Level Teaching Team traces back through the masters and grandmasters who came before, to Grandmaster "Iron" Kim himself. Training directly with the team means receiving that correction at its source, before it has passed through anyone else.

A Master has spent a lifetime developing a complete understanding of movement, form, and technique, along with the ability to observe and correct another person's movement almost as soon as it happens. That depth of experience, drawn from students across every body type and every way of learning, means the team can see a student's strengths and weaknesses quickly, and knows exactly which areas need to be strengthened, restored, or brought back into balance. Progress that might take years under standard instruction alone can move considerably faster once that correction is applied directly.

This level of training also opens the door to advanced self-defense technique and a deeper understanding of the movements themselves, why a particular sequence works the way it does, and what it is actually building in the body over time. Whether a student is seeking advanced skill, recovery from an old injury or imbalance, or a calmer, more focused state of mind, the correction offered at this level is matched directly to what that student needs.

WHAT SETS US APART

What you will not find at any other school in the state.

The Line of instructors

A 4 level system you will not find anywhere else.

No matter your rank, you can train with certified instructors at any of our four levels, from someone with 4 years of experience all the way up to a Master with over 50 years of experience. Most schools cannot offer a fraction of that. At most martial arts schools, you train with whoever is available that day. At Oom Yung Doe, every student has access to four tiers of instructors: Local Instructor, Regional Instructor, National Instructor, and Master. It does not matter if you walked in last week or have been training for ten years or more. There is always another step for continued improvement. This structure also means your own local instructors are always learning from the tiers above them for consistent critique on their techniques, which these advanced adjustments can be passed down to you within your lessons. You are never the most advanced student in the room with no one left to learn from, and your instructor is never the most advanced teacher.

Oom Yung Doe

8 complete martial arts taught as one  system.

Not eight styles taught one at a time. Eight styles woven into a single practice that builds your entire body at the same time, same effort. Mentally, physically, internally, externally, all developing in a balanced way during your practice. Since 1971, the schools of Oom Yung Doe have always taught “8 Complete Styles Taught as One”. Incorporating Kong Su (Karate and Taekwondo), Kung Fu, Aikido and Hap Ki Do, Judo and Jiu-Jitsu, Tai Chi Chung, Bagua, Kom Doe (Samurai Sword), and Ship Pal Gae (18 Traditional Weapons). Oom Yung Doe also offers much depth into Qi Gong (Nae Gong) and Yoga movements. Most unique to the Oom Yung Doe style are the ultimate forms from Asia; Nae Gong Bope, Way Gong Bope, and Kyong Gong Sul Bope. All taught and critiqued by the Master Level Teaching Team. Proper forms and movements, developing all areas of the body and mind at the same time brings about a deeper benefit one cannot achieve through various forms of exercise, weight training, sports, or punching and kicking. When you are young the body can withstand over and under use of muscles and joints. However, with proper training one can build a proper foundation within themselves at any age or condition. Within a short period of time, you will know and feel the difference.

the lineage

1,500 years of tradition, refined from grandmasters to grandmasters.

Oom Yung Doe traces its lineage back over 1,500 years through generations of East Asian martial arts masters and grandmasters. Refined from masters and grandmasters to masters and grandmasters, this depth of martial arts knowledge and wisdom was brought to the United States by Grandmaster "Iron" Kim in the early 1970s, and it is the same line you train in today at both of our Northwest schools. This is not a system invented in a strip mall in the 1990s. It is not a modern interpretation of something somebody read in a book. When you learn a movement here, you are learning the movement that has been refined by a limited number of accomplished masters and grandmasters over centuries, then passed down without shortcuts and without compromise. You are not training a fitness routine. You are training a practice that has been alive longer than most countries.

one lesson is enough to feel if this is right for YOU
