Understanding Your Eligibility

Introduction
Students training at Oom Yung Doe Northwest may be able to apply funds from a Health Savings Account (HSA) or a Flexible Spending Account (FSA) toward their training. This is possible when a licensed healthcare provider determines that training supports the treatment of a diagnosed medical condition. Eligibility and approval rest entirely with the student's own healthcare provider and their HSA or FSA plan administrator, not with Oom Yung Doe Northwest.

Please Note
Oom Yung Doe Northwest is not a medical provider and does not diagnose, treat, or prescribe for any medical condition. We are unable to confirm eligibility, submit claims on a student's behalf, or guarantee that any HSA or FSA claim will be approved. All eligibility and reimbursement questions should be directed to the student's own healthcare provider and plan administrator.

How This Works
Martial arts training, like a gym membership or yoga class, falls under what the IRS considers a "dual purpose" expense: suitable for general health, but not automatically reimbursable through an HSA or FSA. To use these funds toward training, a student must first obtain a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) from a licensed healthcare provider. This letter confirms that training addresses a diagnosed condition and is typically valid for up to twelve months.

WHAT TO EXPECT

Steps to Explore HSA or FSA Reimbursement

  1. Confirm your account. Check with your employer or benefits administrator to confirm you hold an active HSA or FSA and review your plan's specific documentation requirements.

  2. Establish medical necessity. Speak with your own licensed healthcare provider about whether training at Oom Yung Doe Northwest may support treatment of a diagnosed condition. Students who prefer not to schedule a separate office visit may use Truemed, an independent service that connects members with a licensed clinician for online review, no in-person visit required. Complete the Truemed health survey

  3. Receive your Letter of Medical Necessity. If your provider approves your request, you will receive a signed LMN confirming eligibility.

  4. Request your training receipt. Contact our front desk at Kirkland (425-803-6800) or Northgate (206-523-6865) for an itemized receipt of your tuition.

  5. Submit your claim. Provide your LMN and receipt to your HSA or FSA administrator through their standard reimbursement process. Your administrator makes the final determination on approval.

Renewing Your Letter

Because a Letter of Medical Necessity (LMN) is generally valid for one year, students who wish to continue using HSA or FSA funds should plan to renew the letter with their provider annually.
