Transforming Who You Are
And Your Ability To Defend Yourself

What It Develops

Practicing Kong Su builds more than just physical ability:

  • Lower Body Power and Upper Body Power
Kong Su develops full-body strength by combining Tae Kwon Do's dynamic kicks with Karate’s powerful hand techniques.

Kicking builds explosive strength in the legs, while sharp, linear strikes condition the arms, shoulders, and core. Over time, this creates solid, usable strength from head to toe.

  • Flexibility, Range of Motion, and Joint Health
Kong Su's forms challenge the body to move in high, low, and side-to-side positions.
Practicing these movements improves flexibility and joint mobility, especially in the hips, knees, and ankles. For older students, regular practice keeps the lower body strong and functional well into later years.

  • Speed, Timing, and Coordination
Practicing transitions between kicks and strikes trains you to react quickly, move with purpose, and hit with accuracy.
These drills improve reflexes, timing, and coordination that can be applied both inside and outside of training.

  • Self-Defense That Works in the Real World
Kong Su combines speed, reach, and precision to create powerful self-defense tools.

Kicks let you control distance and keep opponents at bay.
Hand techniques are fast, accurate, and effective.
You’re not just learning drills, you’re building habits that can be used to protect you or someone else.

  • Endurance, Circulation, and Longevity
Kong Su isn’t just about explosive movement, it’s about sustaining effort. The fast-paced drills and full-body engagement improve stamina, circulation, and cardiovascular health.

For students who sit most of the day, Kong Su reactivates and strengthens muscles that are otherwise unused.

  • Discipline, Mental Toughness, and Focus
Every form in Kong Su takes repetition, patience, and attention to detail. Learning to hit the same target, the same way, again and again, builds focus and mental resilience.
You begin to apply that same mindset to work, study, or any other challenge that requires effort over time.

Kong Su

( Tae Kwon Do & Karate )

Any Age

History & Lineage

Kong Su has deep roots. The name itself, “Kong Su Do” or “Kong Soo Do”, comes from the Korean pronunciation of “empty hand way,” connected historically to early martial arts schools or “kwans.”

The Karate side of Kong Su traces back through Okinawan and Japanese Karate and was adopted by many Korean schools post‑World War II. Tae Kwon Do’s history also branches off from this, with early forms like Taekkyon and Subak in Korea, evolving through various kwans unifying under modern Tae Kwon Do.

At Oom Yung Doe, we train Kong Su with respect to this lineage. Our classes preserve traditional movements, refine techniques for speed and precision, and adapt for all ages and conditions. The style is part of the broader “Eight Martial Arts Taught as One” method, so while Kong Su is hard and sharp, it exists in harmony with the rest of our system.

Every Day You Choose
to Take a Step Forward or Backward.
What Will You Choose Today?

"I used to go to a gym, but that got boring. Then I tried out this place and haven't regretted it for a second. The instructors -- patient, thorough and providing personalized instruction -- make sure everyone improves.

It's a unique mix of martial arts, self defense and mindfulness that challenges the brain as much as the body.

Highly recommend their adult classes and the women's only self defense class."

What This Style Is

Kong Su is the “empty hand way” in Oom Yung Doe.
It blends Tae Kwon Do and Karate into a balanced system where kicks and hand techniques complement each other.

Tae Kwon Do emphasizes kicks (~70%) and lower body movement, with quick transitions and explosive power.
Karate emphasizes sharp, linear strikes and blocks, with strong upper-body attacks and precision.

Together they form a foundation of striking power, speed, and coordination.
