What It Develops
-
Internal and External Strength
Bagua builds strength in muscles, tendons, joints, and organs. It challenges both large and small muscle groups while also training the internal systems of the body. Including circulation and breath control to function with greater balance and efficiency.
-
Focus and Body Awareness
Every part of the body - eyes, hands, spine, legs, breath - must coordinate together during Bagua movement. The focus required for this precision calms the mind and builds deep concentration, leading to more mental clarity and presence outside of practice.
-
Chi Balance & Energy Flow
When practiced correctly, Bagua helps regulate and circulate Chi throughout the body. It’s a physical way of clearing blockages, reducing stress, and restoring natural energy levels. Combined with rhythmic breathing, this makes Bagua a powerful tool for overall health and energy.
-
Longevity & Youthful Condition
Bagua’s circular motions stretch and align the body in ways few other styles do. This improves posture, joint health, and internal energy. Practiced consistently, it supports a youthful, resilient condition regardless of age. Helping prevent stiffness, imbalance, and premature wear on the body.

History & Lineage
Bagua (also written as Bagwa or Pakua) is one of the most advanced internal martial arts in the Oom Yung Doe line. It is closely connected to ancient East Asian concepts of balance, energy, and natural motion. Much like how Feng Shui channels energy through a space, Bagua channels energy through the body.
The Oom Yung lineage includes 360 distinct techniques within Bagua, developed over generations to train reflexes, condition the body, and align the practitioner’s internal strength (Nae Gong). Practitioners learn to move like a coiled spring - light, fast, and powerful, all while staying centered and controlled.
Bagua is not simply movement for movement’s sake. When practiced correctly, it transforms the way the body carries energy, responds to force, and maintains balance under pressure. It’s a holistic style - physical, internal, and mental. One of the most complete forms for maintaining long-term health and capability.

"I used to go to a gym, but that got boring. Then I tried out this place and haven't regretted it for a second. The instructors -- patient, thorough and providing personalized instruction -- make sure everyone improves.
It's a unique mix of martial arts, self defense and mindfulness that challenges the brain as much as the body.
Highly recommend their adult classes and the women's only self defense class."

About the Style
Bagua Chung is an internal martial art rooted in the principle of continuous change , learning to adapt in real time with flow, balance, and awareness.
Movements in Bagua are circular, fluid, and coiled, developing the ability to move lightly and gracefully with power and speed just beneath the surface.
At the heart of Bagua is the Bagua Walk, a circular walking form inspired by animal movement. As the practitioner coils and uncoils the body through tight, spiraled turns, the entire body is engaged from feet to fingertips. Forms shift from offense to defense in one continuous loop, training the mind and body to work as one.
Rather than relying on brute strength, Bagua sharpens reflexes, aligns internal energy (Chi), and teaches how to direct that energy through movement. Over time, this creates not just physical ability but a deeper awareness of how the body moves, feels, and responds.
