Kung Fu

( Goong Bu )

"I used to go to a gym, but that got boring. Then I tried out this place and haven't regretted it for a second. The instructors -- patient, thorough and providing personalized instruction -- make sure everyone improves.

It's a unique mix of martial arts, self defense and mindfulness that challenges the brain as much as the body.

Highly recommend their adult classes and the women's only self defense class."

What This Style Is

Kung Fu, known in Oom Yung Doe as Goong Bu (“From the Palace”), is a circular, flowing style rooted in natural movement.

Unlike the sharp, linear strikes of Kong Su, Kung Fu emphasizes twisting, turning, and coiling motions, training the body to generate power from every direction.

Movements often begin softly and end with strength, helping the practitioner blend offense and defense in one motion.

Goong Bu forms are built on instinct and balance. Through repetition, students learn how to control their body with precision and speed, even in unfamiliar or difficult positions.

What It Develops

Kung Fu builds more than physical skill, it sharpens the entire mind-body connection:

  • Full-Body Strength and Flexibility
The circular movements stretch and engage muscles from head to toe, especially in the core and hips.

Over time, this improves range of motion and reduces stiffness, even for students who begin with limited mobility.

  • Reflexes, Timing & Coordination
Because techniques come from all directions, practitioners develop quicker reflexes and better reaction time. Training helps students stay centered, even while changing direction mid-movement.

  • Mental Focus & Calm Under Pressure
The complexity of the movements demands presence and awareness. Practicing Kung Fu helps build the ability to stay mentally composed and physically relaxed, even in fast or high-pressure situations.

  • Posture, Circulation & Energy Flow
Kung Fu practice opens the body, encourages upright posture, and improves internal circulation. With regular training, many students report reduced daily tension and a greater sense of energy and clarity throughout the day.

  • Balance & Joint Stability
Because Kung Fu movements twist and challenge your base, they naturally strengthen the stabilizing muscles around your ankles, knees, hips, and shoulders. This enhances overall balance and lowers the risk of injury over time.

History & Lineage

Goong Bu traces its roots back to the martial training once studied in ancient palaces.

Scholars and martial artists observed movement in nature, drawing inspiration from the way animals moved with freedom and strength. Over centuries, these movements were adapted for the human body - preserving their health benefits and martial application.

Today, Kung Fu is practiced around the world for both its physical and mental benefits.

In Oom Yung Doe, Kung Fu is one of the eight martial arts taught as part of a unified system. Practitioners use it to strengthen their body, sharpen their awareness, and improve their quality of life - regardless of age or condition.
