On May 18th, 2004 Theresa Fornalski a 1st degree student from The School of Oom yung Doe, and a Music teacher at Seahurst Elementary, organized an after school Kids Self Defense seminar for the Kids at Seahurst Elementary. What makes this lively bunch of kids special…is the fact that they worked together in raising a 100.00 for the American Lung Association.
Assistant Instructor Jennifer Archer, who will be climbing Mount Rainier for the American Lung Association, was invited to attend to be a guest speaker and to assist in the class. Dressed in her hiking gear she connected with the students by having each of them try on her backpack as she spoke about what she will be doing and about the ALAW. She then had the students go through a practical lesson to help them feel what a person with asthma may feel when having an asthma attack. As each student ran in place for a minute she gave each student a straw and had them stop and breathe in and out of the straw and then breathe normally with out the straw.
Then Theresa, took her students through a basic punch and kick lesson working on coordination and timing. Theresa worked with each student with care showing them a number of ways to practice. You could see the excitement in each student as they were eagerly learning something new. They all had fun and left exited and wanting to return for more.
Thank you to the kids, Peter, Mickey, Jason, Jennifer, Morgan, Jessica, Brook, Danielle and Christy, at Seahurst Elementary who worked together to give to an organization that is working hard to help us all breathe easier with your support you are making a difference.
