American Lung Association (ALA) Evening Charity Event
Thank you to all who so generously supported me in this year’s Climb for Clean Air. Once again this was a rewarding and challenging experience. July 16th & 17th of 2004 was a beautiful time to be on Mt. Rainier. We started out on the trail at about 10:00 am; by this time the temperature was nearly 70 degrees. The clear sky provided fabulous views of Mt. Saint Helens, Mt. Adams, Mt. Hood and the Tacoma mountain range. We all went or at least tried to go to bed by 7pm because at 12:00 am we were awakened to make our summit attempt. I wish I could tell you that this was the year that I summitted the crater of Mt. Rainier, however my journey ended in the Cathedral rocks. I am not disappointed, I did quite well and as my guide said, “You’ll just have to come back and finish the expedition.” I had a two hour stay on the side of the mountain. A small bolder provided wind and rock fall protection. I had the opportunity to watch the sunrise turning the sky and hillside purple, and the howling wind kept me company.

I want to give a special thanks to Prime Electric, Shinn Mechanical, Starbucks and their employee’s for their matching gifts, to the instructors and student from The School of Oom Yung Doe and to the group of kids at Seahurst Elementary. These six individual groups raised more than half of my goal. However, with the help of all my sponsors and supporters together, we raised $4,433.00 which exceeded my goal. You all helped 150 low income kids who suffer from asthma go to asthma camp. At camp they learn how to better manage their asthma, get to be around other kids who have the same challenge, get to have fun in a safe environment, and much more.
The American Lung Association of WA is a wonderful organization to work with. They have a unique way of providing special programs to help a wide range of people. This non-profit organization is dedicated to improving the quality of the air we breathe, to help people make better healthier choices, meeting the research and educational needs to find cures and relief from the many health issues from allergies, asthma to lung cancer etc.
I look forward to next year’s climb; in fact I am already beginning to fundraise. Later in the year I will be sending out letters like I did for this years climb however if you need another tax deduction for 2004 or if you would like to help me get a head start on my 2005 goal feel free to send in an early donation. What is my goal? I want to raise $5,910 because that will mean that I will have raised $14,410, in 3 years, which is the elevation at which Mt. Rainier stands. You can see why I need to start early. Thank you again for your continuous and generous support both financially and with your words of encouragement.
